About VESN.BIZ
The Virginia Environmental Services Network (VESN) is a statewide
referral network created to provide Virginia industries with
a current, efficient, and precise means of access to the various
public and private sector environmental product and service providers conducting
business within the Commonwealth.
In January 2005, VESN.BIZ was formally launched by the Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA) to serve as a virtual marketplace for businesses and other organizations to buy and sell environmentally-related products, services and information. In 2003, after closure of the site by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the VMA agreed to redevelop the original Virginia Environmental Service Network into a commercially viable resource for business and industry - VESN.BIZ.
The result of a cooperative effort between both public and private
sector organizations, the VESN project was initiated in the fall
of 1997 with a mass survey of potential environmental service providers.
The purpose of this survey was to identify as many of the environmental
assistance businesses and organizations operating within Virginia
as possible, determine exactly what type of help they offer, and
to which industries or companies they have provided aid.
Once the survey endeavor was completed, a comprehensive, searchable
database containing all obtained information was created. The database,
which serves as the heart of the VESN web site, grew to nearly 700 registered clients over the years and will undergo a total transformation in 2005.
